Want to monitor a few switches, followed the instructions at (link below) but am missing something, or i've misread, forgive me if this is very basic!

http://www.openideas.info/wiki/index.php?title=Pandora:FAQ#I_have_a_3Com_Switch_and_I_want_to_monitor_with_SNMP.2C_how_can_I_start_.3F

i've created a new module under the manage modules/network components section, have given it a name, set the type correctly and put the OID string in, all saved ok, but now i'm stuck!

where do i got from here to enter the ip of the switch i want to monitor and setup the monitoring itself?

thanks

Chris

Well, I'm pretty new too.... the blind leading the blind.

Anyway, you need to create an agent object for the switch (if you haven't done so) - that is where the IP address goes. You then add the module to that agent. Now the only way I've found to do that is to:

- create a module template
- add your module to it
- go into Manage Agents
- click on the agent in question
- then click on the "Module Templates" icon on the upper right of the page
- assign your new template to the agent

Then click on the light bulb icon and you'll see the modules.... I would think there is a better way but I haven't found it yet...

Hi tinman,

The template approach would definitely work, but instead of clicking on the "Module Templates" icon, you can click on the "Modules" icon and create a single module (either from scratch or from a module component).
