Downloaded and installed the PandoraFMS appliance and got it running using Virtual PC.
Installed a remote Agent an a Windows box.  The Pandora website console works and the remote Agent reports - but Pandora will not send out emails or even sound an alarm when a critical condition occurs.

Two questions:
1- how can I just get the audible alarms to work?  I have them set up but no sound when a critical condition occurs.  The test play of the sounds do work.
2- how do you setup the email to use Gmail.  Gmail needs SSL or TLS to work but those are not available in the config file.

Any help getting me going with Pandora is appreciated.

Could the reason the Alerts are not working is because I am using the "Appliance" version of Pandora that runs as a VM in Virtual Box?

Nice program ... but I can't get the alerts to work.
Cannot get email, text, or sound alerts to work when a critical condition occurs.

Using the Appliance Pandora FMS under Virtual Box with web console.

That's not really the way Pandora Server is meant to be installed in a production configuration.

Using Pandora in VB appliance might cause some of the features work wrong.

Pandora Server's official distribution is SUSE Enterprise. There everything should work perfectly.

Regarding the configuration of MTAs for sending alert notifications via email...

You might want to check the documentation and other people reporting the very same problem in the forum:

Sending mails using EXPECT

Receiving emails when an alert is triggered

Get Pandora FMS to send emails properly

Greetings.

After working on the installation for a few days, I finally got PandoraFMS to work properly sending out emails etc.

My configuation consists of:
  • Ubuntu Server 11.04
  • Postfix
  • SNMP
  • Mail Utilities
  • a Dynamic IP using DYNS client

I spent a lot of time getting my Postfix mail server to interface with GMAIL and be a relay host for specified hosts, and relay SMTP email on port 25 to GMAIL.  I think one key is to install Postfix as a Smarthost and modify the config file.
