Why can't people write proper installers with proper error messages? What is wrong with people?
I tried to install Pandora, and this is what I get in step 4 of the web gui:
Creating database and default configuration file Connection with Database Creating database 'pandora' Opening database 'pandora' Creating schema Populating database Established privileges for user pandora. A new random password has been generated: ihhiwcxm Please write it down, you will need to setup your Pandora FMS server, editing the /etc/pandora/pandora_server.conf file Write permissions to save config file in './include' Created new config file at 'include/config.php'
There were some problems. Installation was not completed.
Please correct failures before trying again. All database schemes created in this step have been dropped.
No effing clue what the "failures" are. No effing clue at all. No hint. No log file. Just a failure or failures.
The problem is this: people write installers for systems that are already set up, rather than for clean installations. This is a bad idea as it hides bugs.
I could persist with Pandora, but it's just a waste of my time. If the installation doesn't work correctly, why would I trust anything else to work correctly?
Thank you for your useless and unhelpful error messages. If anyone asks me about Pandora I will say "it doesn't install and doesn't tell you why not." That is my experience. I don't care if it works for somebody else.
I give up.
