What is New in Pandora FMS 3.1 Opensource
Pandora FMS Opensource has the following new features:
Higher Escalation
PandoraFMS 3.0 is thought to monitor up to 100.000 modules with each server. This is possible thank to the new modules without historic data and due to the fact that the engine has been totally re-written.
Windows Agent Features
The 3.1 agent has lot of new features:
- It can run automatic actions when it detects a service or a process has crashed (watchdog mode).
- It listen in a specific port therefore it can receive remote commands from Pandora FMS web console.
- Native WMI queries locally in the agent.
- Performance Counter queries locally in agent.
- It is able to send data to another PandoraFMS server if it detects the main server is not available.
- New log parser admitting regular expressions.
- The Event Log parser has been rewritten, it works faster now.
- The data gathering project has been improved to handle much better the basic modules (hard disk, CPU, and memory), and show percentage data as absolute HD and memory values.
- Packages buffer. If the main server where the agent has to send the data to is unavailabe,it will "save" the packages as soon as it becomes available and send them back.
- TCP (local or remote) ports check
- Optional "on start" pause, to give some time to all the process and services to boot in case of a system reboot or crash.
Alerts
Alerts and correlation interface has been re-designed, now it is based in a templated-engine which gives the possibility to create and re-use the alerts in all the agents. The correlation engine has been re-written as well and it is now more flexible and easier to create correlation rules.
Event management improvement
Event management has been improved with new filters and some other new features.
Visual Console improvement
Now it is possible to define virtual objects, full agents and map auto creation from groups. Now is possible to show the data been gathered for the agent.
Three Status for all the Modules
Pandora FMS 3.0 modules have now status (NORMAL, WARNING and CRITICAL) for all its modules, having threshold value for each status (customizable for all the modules)
Plugin server is now compatible with Nagios
PandoraFMS 3.0 is able, now, to use, native, almost all Nagios Remote Plugins.
Interactive Graphs (flash)
All the report's graphs are more detailed and much more customizable, it is possible to change the colors of the shown values. It give a much professional aspect to the reports and they allow the user to "play" with their values in certain moments or certain parts of the graph.
New SNMP traps console
Pandora FMS 3.0 SNMP traps console will have the following features:
- Better trap description
- Traps criticity filtering
- Data source filtering
- Searches
- Visual improvements
CD Appliance
Pandora FMS 3.0 is available in a CD (including the OS, SUSE), so its deployment will be easy and quick, all in a wizard.
What is New in Pandora FMS 3.0 Enterprise
Besides Opensource new features, Pandora FMS Opensource has the following new features:
Policies
This feature is basically for corporation with lot of agents. These new policies included in the 3.0 version allows the user to distribute modules and alerts to group of agents. In addition it allows the user to view the information filtered by agents.
WEB Monitoring
By the network server + Goliath integration, PandoraFMS Enterprise is able to monitor web based applications, doing, for instance, availability, total navigation time, and doing complex webchecks such as authentication, filling forms, content changes etc. All done, as always, in a centralized interface, Pandora FMS web.
Dashboard
Pandora FMS 3.0 has a main page, being this, a Dashboard. Our dashboard is modules based and totally customizable with different screen and frames. Each page will contain different widgets such as reports, graphs, maps, metrics etc.
Inventory
A new systems and services inventory which will act as a system inventory, showing software and hardware in the monitored systems. It is possible to choose whether agent-less or agent-based configuration to get that data.
SNMP Traps Console Improvement
Pandora FMS 3.0 Enterprise SNMP traps console has the following features:
- MIBs loader for traps definition
- Traps alias created by the user
OnLine Backup
PandoraFMS Enterprise have a backup tool integrated in the Webconsole, which will allow the administrator to create backups, restore backups or even download them. It is possible to schedule automatic backups.
Modules Library (For the software agent)
Besides from the remote module library, PandoraFMS will have a new library (update via Open Update Manager) with modules for all its software agents.
Secondary Database
Used to store historical long term data (several years), this is useful in large environments installations in case they need to keep lot of historical data.
New features in Pandora FMS 3.1
New general features
- GIS for Agent Geopositioning using GPS information embedded into de XML or by manual placement. Pandora FMS render the information in realtime in a new map-view, using real maps from Google, OpenStreetMaps or your own maps.
- Complete rewrite of the visual console editor. New code from scratch, producing a new, pure Javascript code much more usable than the old one, and fully WYSIWYG.
- New reporting tool. Added 4 ITIL KPI's, a custom SQL report (based on SQL entered by user), a used-defined data report (based on serialized data in module information), better event/alert listings. Added a wizard for the enterprise. Added a custom page design, incluiding header and footer for enterprise customers. Updated PDF reporting with a fancy design.
- New API system to manage Pandora FMS from a webservice interface (first version).
- New CLI (Command Line Interface) to manage PAndora FMS from the console (first version).
- Added timezone (global) support for the GUI. This will show the data timestamps according your timezone. Planned to implement timezone also per each user.
- Support for new Log4x information type (logs).
- New Enterprise ACL system, to implement low-level access to each page/section of Pandora FMS console. This allow to define what exactly can view/do a user, even the own administrator.
- New alert type: onChange. Implemented to be able to launch an alert on a data value change (string or numeric).
- New metaconsole mode. This allow to operate several -independent- Pandora FMS from a single console, reviewing it's data on a centralized, summarized way, allowing also a simple "delegated" authentication. With this model, you can have an "array" of Pandora Fms, without limits of managed devices (thousands).
- New feature (Enterprise): Service monitoring, based on a weighted ponderation of a list of individual monitors. This will allow to create new monitors based on the dynamic sum of a list of items depending of it's status.
- Added support for SNMP v3.
- New translation (Japanese) for Help files, and console texts for 3.0/3.1
- Dashboard improvement, new widgets.
- Cascade protecion improvement: now it checks on any parent level, using the whole hierarchy to avoid firing alerts if any previous element has already fired a critical alert.
WEB Console
- New diagnostic screen in console (Setup -> Diagnostic info).
- Split setup options in several new setup sub-screens. (General, Visualization, Performance, GIS, Metaconsola, ACL Enterprise, etc).
- Added new mode for collect statistics not in real time, improving performance. This needs several important modifications in console and server. New fields and tables added. This allow to have up to 5000 agents in the same system, without performance problems viewing tactical views as group view, server or tactical
- New title styles applied to all pages in WEB console.
- New group screen.
- Modified tactical view: Events show only pending, and over the server status. Added global health bar.
- Added support for OpenStreetmaps and Googlestret maps in Pandora FMS to render GIS information.
- Added support for batch policy install in console using a new Javascript control.
- New Database Main info screen, about performance and important values of Database, including last time of maintance script.
- Added support to actions and templates to edit/show it's group, in order to implement efectively ACL.
- New module group editor
- Partial rewrite of old code for visualization/edition of alerts, solving several problems from the past, mostly on performance issues.
- Group "All/Any" is now better managed.
Servers
- Events are now "auto-validated" when a more important event on the same module is displayed or event disapear. This allow to have a "event view" with current events, not historical. To see historical, just select "all events" instead non-validated events.
- Modified main loop to do internal tasks more eficiently.
- Pandora DB improvement to do several tasks progresively, using many steps, avoiding database locks.
- Added several new indexes and removed some: Important performance increase.
- Added support for GeoIP in Recon server.
- New self-monitoring option for the server. Server itself acts like a embedded agent providing useful information about performance and status.
- Pandora_db.pl: Added support to new purge parameters for event, audits, snmp traps, string data and gis data. Added new section to clean orphaned information (using an application -implemented database referencial integrity model).
Agents
- Middle layer for OS information. This new abstraction allow unix agent to provide new module interface to collect directly filesystem information as well as process information.
- User defined timeout for module execution in Windows agents.
- Full agent support for running in Windows 2008 R2, Vista and Windows7, both 32bit and 64 bit.
